april 5, 2006

well, i'm all moved in. i would like to extend great thanks to my dad, chad, and james—you are all kings among mortal men.

i haven't let up with my obsessive compulsive urges and have completely unpacked and organized my belongings. furthermore, i have expanded the scope of things i own in a ridiculous, compensatory, knee-jerk reflex to the breakup...

i'm hurting my neck right now composing this update on my new 32 inch HDTV ViewSonic monitor...i don't even know if monitor is the right word for this thing. and i think i might just need a wireless mouse/keyboard to make the thing usable from the new ikea futon...man, they really make you work to assemble some of their stuff (thanks again chad!).

i'd say i'm digressing, but i didn't have a point to begin with. i guess i'm updating things just to get this archiving out of the way, and to share this new photo with you. i promise i'll get that rooftop panorama up soon!

for the time being, content yourselves with an outsider's view of a snow storm, and i'll catch up with you soon.

i have put up a new photo, the promised panorama. the various shots were assembled using adobe elements, which i have at work. it is a little rough around the edges (oh, my wit...), but i'm still happy with the end result. note that you've got to do some scrolling to see the whole thing.

i had an okay weekend. i spent saturday in the company of my friend james, and had my brother and his partner sarah over briefly in the afternoon before chase, dave, and m-ward made their appearance. my guelph-going friends and i christened the rooftop pool (as seen in the above-linked photo). good times. i can see myself doing laps as exercise—but seeing and doing differ.

on my saturday night walk i passed by the unicorn and was drawn in by the people and the sound of live music. i acquired a Guinness and sat myself at a table of abandoned chairs just shy of the "stage" (music-nook). a couple of songs in, the party of women who "owned" the table returned and i was included in conversation. i learned that i had crashed the birthday party table and so i hooked the birthday girl up with another gin and tonic. we chatted, i got drunk, and we all danced up a storm (cut some mad rug, as they say). immutable to new friendships, not i.

today, i woke up sore and slightly intoxicated, which is always interesting. several glasses of water later, my body started taking ambulatory commands with more reliability, and i eventually found myself at ikea, where i purchased a lamp, some bulbs, a small frying pan, drinking glasses, and candles (scented tealights, since you insist on such detail). i failed, however, to purchase the major items i'm interested in obtaining; it was a fact-finding mission, and i'm at the idea-generating stage. the next phase of work, after the completion of operation furniture, is operation decorate. this should prove fun, and i plan to do some creative work of my own to spruce the place up.

my parents attended the new digs in the afternoon, rousing me from an unintended (snuck-up-on-me type of affair) nap. i am not fun to be around after a failed nap. mom, dad, i'm sorry, i hope dinner on me made up for the company.

this evening, i edited a paper for a friend at work (although not work-related...the paper that is). i'm not sure where time went, because, not unlike my nap, bedtime has snuck up on me.

random observations:

over and out.

april 17, 2006

this weekend i adventured back to bond head to see the family. shortly after arriving on saturday evening, we headed back out to oshawa to attend my cousin crystal's baptism—she is to marry this summer, and churches prefer baptised folks for such things (as opposed to heathens, like myself).

we returned home that night, and yesterday was spent marvelling at the beauty of the countryside, erecting a (instruction-lacking) gazebo with my dad, and eating a massive amount of turkey (thanks mom).

today i'm off to cambellcroft to investigate a fire that is believed to be the result of a faulty chimney installation. yay for measuring clearances to combustibles!

i swear, i'll get out there with my camera soon to liven up this so-called photoblog. in the meantime, watch out for unicorns.

matt out.

april 28, 2006

all manner of interesting things have been going on in the life of matt. but i think a random and irreverent update concerning unimportant things is what you're all after, isn't it? on that note, allow me to present my most recent value village purchase:

lawn darts

my plan is to buy fishing line and suspend these historical artifacts in my living room, such that the darts appear to be frozen in the middle of their parabolic arcs, heading for their tubular targets.

they came in the original box with the original instructions. how cool is that? "A new exciting outdoor game for the whole family!" what's more, "is fun for young or old." i'm sold.

in real news, i have a throat/tonsil infection that is lingering. the doctor person said i had to tough it out. so here i sit, feeling like shit, readying myself for the day ahead. i'm about to leave for a site...a basement fire. i can picture it already: tonnes of debris to shovel, as well as particle-filled air that will require a full mask, making breathing difficult and increasing the effort required for every task. alas, this is my job.

i hope everyone is well, and their kith, and their kin. peace favour y'all.
