has the world been glowing lately, or is it just me?

last night, after cleaning the place up, i lit candles, turned off the lights, and listened to some bruce cockburn albums; i meditated on many things. i also appended some haikus to yesterday's post, so don't miss those.

today i walked all the way down to Play De Record to get tickets for wemf, but they were closed. nonetheless, it was a great walk, if a little on the hot side. i stopped off at house of tea and spoke with a lovely tea consultant, who the brochure names Marisha Golla Ranasinghe. i have been meaning to ask an expert about proper brewing techniques, etc. and so, i now have a sampler of a fancy earl grey tea, a bag of china black tea with rose petals, and a half bag of a tranquility blend of Marisha's devising, which may help me get my sleep on—she explicitly insturcted me not to drive or operate heavy equipment after drinking this tea, haha! i also stopped to get some energy and went to this little shop beside a gym and drank a strawberry protein shake. i was out of place alongside sweaty muscular humans, but the shake was delicious and nourishing (*wink*).

i just got home an hour or two ago, and have been alternating between listening to music (cat stevens, simon & garfunkel, etc.), hand-drumming, and playing guitar. i think i played guitar on the balcony for about half-an-hour, and damn it felt good; my wrist is sore, my fingers hurts, my arms are tired, and i love it.

well, azaybio just called me and he's here, and we're off to guelph. peace be with you my friends. have a great weekend.

so, lately i have been attempting to find the way (of the taoist variety). this has mostly involved not looking for it. the result: i've been happier in the past while than in a long while, and the world has been unfolding in the most unexpected and wonderful ways.

this morning i woke up smiling and went for a walk with my camera in guelph. i took several photos. i'm sharing four that i'm happy with, starting here; they are all painted in the light of a sunrise that marked more than just a new day.

this weekend i went whitewater rafting on the ottawa river with jayley. the outfit is called wilderness tours. i had an incredible time; the rafting was wild, and the company and party atmosphere were stellar. my whole body is bright red from sun and my every muscle aches...life is good. however, i'm literally exhausted and i must go to sleep.

g'night world.

yesterday i went to fire scene in don mills. while i was there contractors were putting up a temporary wall where a window had been. at one point, this involved a futile attempt at hammering a latch off of some framing—eventually a drill with the appropriate bit was produced and set to the task. shortly after that, i took a break because they were in my way and i went to grab a slice of pizza across the road. stepping off the elevator, there were four police officers in the lobby looking around suspiciously and they asked me if i was working in the apartment where the fire had been. i said yes, and they asked if anyone was using a hammer gun or something? i told them about the contractors and they told me that someone had called it in as a shooting. i laughed, they didn't.

right now, i'm contemplating my evening. perhaps i'll go see bradly. one thing i should do is cook dinner, since my vegetables are sitting in the crisper, fully unloved.

there is new photo up, a rear window from a car in the car lot where i investigated a vehicle fire this morning.

okie dokie. matt out.

factoid: my shoulders are peeling.

tonight i went to yuk yuks with some workmates; oliver won tickets from their business card draw and was gracious enough to spread the love.

it was fun but i was so tired today that the world seemed in a haze.

soon i'm off to bed...i can't wait to figure out what adventures this weekend may hold. i hope you all make the best of it too.

g'night.

today i got called out to a fire in the afternoon, which is always less fun than more. i was right downtown...let us say that fire investigation, parking, and downtown are not the best of friends. additionally, someone has definitely accidentally left the earth's thermostat in heat mode, and left the set-point high (*wink*).

on the other side of the fence, jayley came over tonight and we went to futureshop and upgraded my speakers to a 5.1 system because my old speakers were cutting out and it was really taking us outside of the music-listening experience. so now i have a cool set of speakers that work without fail. to evaluate the speakers, we elected to watch a movie. in fact, i purchased the movie at futureshop along with the speakers. suspense aside, the movie was willow. this has to be one of the better fantasy films ever made (ranking up there with the princess bride, ladyhawk, flight of dragons, and legend). good times.

the drinking of beers accompanied the watching of movie.

after the movie, it was time for another functional test: i put on some trippy music, threw on my favourite winamp visualization (milkdrop), and we immersed ourselves. as i type, jayley is passed out on the couch behind me...haha.

well, this gives me time for reflection in this two-way mirror called a blog...

lately, i have not been willing to type about those things that have mattered the most to me; instead, i have typed around them. but i cannot contain myself any longer, and i want only to share with you a simple and beautiful truth, because it colours my everything right now: i am happy with someone in this world.

full stop.

and now to sleep. g'night folks.

this weekend i went to wemf with my friend aleksandra. also, we met up with azaybio there.

when aleks and i first arrived early saturday morning—a couple of hours before the sun—we wandered around the site and while we were walking along a road by some permanent or long-term camp sites, i saw an older, dishevelled-looking man with a guitar. after our meeting this is what i wrote about him in my journal:

i met a man who described himself as a prospector; his name is john...and he said to call him "the rock" or "rock man", i forget which. he told me that his hand was broken. someone here (at wemf) had just "beat him up" (i.e., damaged him)—such terror and ugliness.

despite his injuries, he played a song for me. the song told of prison and hardness, and the joy of being free.

in turn, i played guitar for him and he enjoyed it very much.

i went back later and his friends were at the trailer where i had met him. they said that they were taking care of him. i hope he is well.

he put a knife in a man's back once—a horrible accident in his telling. the world is so strange.

right now, i'm at home recovering. i tapped out today and so i'm going back to the office presently, to get some paperwork done. wish me luck.
